Stephen Hunt: 'Paul Clement would be good Republic of Ireland boss'

Republic of Ireland winger Stephen Hunt identifies Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement as a potential new manager for the national team.

Republic of Ireland winger Stephen Hunt has said that Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement would be a good choice for the national team's next manager.

Free agent Hunt believes that the English coach is the perfect candidate to succeed Giovanni Trapattoni in the role.

"In my opinion you could also go along the lines of Paul Clement. He's a young coach who's at Real Madrid, who's worked with a lot of experienced managers such as [Jose] Mourinho, [Brendan] Rodgers and [Carlo] Ancelotti," he told talkSPORT.

"You could give him the job in terms of how he knows how to structure and he knows how to deal with players.

"Irish players don't need motivation, they need someone to tell them where to go, how to play, what places to pick the ball up and to learn more and educate them more. He has done a good job in terms of what he does. There's no coincidence that Ancelotti has taken him to Real Madrid from PSG."

Martin O'Neill, Mick McCarthy and Brian McDermott have been named among the favourites to succeed Trapattoni as Republic of Ireland boss.
