New Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has revealed that Mark van Bommel convinced him to move to Italy.
The former PSV Eindhoven man joined the Serie A side on Wednesday for a fee believed to be in the region of £15m.
Speaking after his move, the Dutch international said that it was advice from Van Bommel that made him make the switch to Serie A.
"Mark was the man with experience of Italy," Strootman told De Telegraaf.
"He told me how great the passion of the fans was, how special the atmosphere in the stadiums was and how there was a totally different football culture.
"I will train every day with top players and get to play against the likes of Inter, Milan, Juventus and Napoli."
Strootman signed a five-year contract with Rudi Garcia's side.
