Former Manchester City centre-back Jerome Boateng wants to join Manchester United on a free transfer, according to a report.

Former Manchester City centre-back Jerome Boateng is reportedly keen to join Manchester United on a free transfer this summer.

The 32-year-old left Bayern Munich at the end of June following the expiration of his contract and is believed to be attracting interest from some of the leading clubs in Serie A.

Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio, Napoli and Roma are all said to be interested in the Germany international, but according to Calciomercato, Boateng 'dreams' of a switch to Old Trafford.

Man United are closing in on the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, which is expected to open the door for Axel Tuanzebe to leave on loan for the 2021-22 campaign.

There have been suggestions that head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants another centre-back to arrive this summer, though, with Eric Bailly's future at the club unclear.

Boateng, who won nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League crowns during his time at Allianz Arena, made 24 appearances for Man City during the 2010-11 campaign.
