Ruud van Nistelrooy questions Wayne Rooney's commitment

Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy believes that Wayne Rooney should leave the club if he is not fully committed.

Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has questioned Wayne Rooney's commitment to the club amid growing speculation over the Englishman's future.

Departing manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that Rooney had asked to leave the club towards the end of last season, although the striker has reportedly denied issuing such a request.

The transfer request was Rooney's second in recent years, and Van Nistelrooy believes that he should leave the club if he is not fully committed to it.

"It is a matter of how he feels. If he feels he is committed to the club I think there is an opening," said the Dutchman, who scored 150 goals for United.

"If he says there isn't I don't think there is a future for him but it is up to him. I think the fans would love him to stay but it depends on the commitment.

"If he is fully here everyone loves him but when he is not fully committed it is probably better to move on."

Rooney's potential availability has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
