Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick says that Anthony Elanga will benefit from his penalty miss against Middlesbrough.

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has said that Anthony Elanga will benefit from dealing with the disappointment of his penalty miss against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

The 19-year-old missed the decisive effort in the shootout on Friday, as the Championship outfit progressed to the fifth round of the competition at Man United's expense.

However, Rangnick has insisted that Elanga has moved on from the disappointment, which will "help him in his development" over the next few years.

"Yeah, as far as I could see in training, he was okay. Of course, it was a difficult moment for him," Rangnick told MUTV.

"In the last four weeks, he's now experienced both sides of this beautiful game. He did extremely well in the past couple of weeks and scored a vital goal at Brentford. Now, in the cup, he's also experienced negativity and how cruel football, at times, can be.

"It will definitely help him in his development in the next couple of months and years. Again, for us, we have to draw a line under the FA Cup. We'd love to still be part of this competition and go as far as we could have got. It's over and now tomorrow, it's Burnley."

The youngster has been a regular for the Red Devils in recent weeks, starting each of his side's last three Premier League matches against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham United.
