Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has refused to reveal if Steven Gerrard will star in the Reds' clash against Manchester United on Saturday.
The skipper is yet to complete a full match for the Merseyside club since returning from a groin injury, which had the England international sidelined for six months.
"We'll continue to manage it as well as we have done," said Dalglish. "We're not in any position to sit here and disclose our team for two days' time.
"But we're delighted with the progress he's made and the way he's been looked after, and we'll just continue to do that. When we think he's ready to play, he'll be the first to answer the call."
The Scotsman went on to say that the 31-year-old's involvement will not be dependent on his previous performances against the Red Devils.
"It's not to do with what he's done against Manchester United before," he added. "We'll judge it on what he's done so far [fitness-wise]. We don't look back into history to see what he's done to Manchester United."
The Merseyside club take on their bitter rivals at Anfield on Saturday.
