Liverpool striker Danny Ings has suffered a serious knee injury which is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.
Ings missed the majority of the last campaign after sustaining an ACL injury in his right knee and he had been hoping to impress when coming off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup last week.
However, it has been revealed that during the closing stages of the 2-1 win at Anfield, Ings damaged cartilage in his right knee and will undergo surgery to correct the injury on Wednesday.
Liverpool have said that Ings will spend between seven and nine months on the sidelines, meaning that he is expected to miss the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old has scored four goals in 11 appearances for Liverpool since signing from Burnley in June 2015.
