Logan Sargeant, who recently lost his Formula 1 seat with Williams mid-season, appears to be facing a year on the sidelines for 2025.
Although Meyer Shank Racing is sharing photos and videos of the American driver's seat fitting, anticipating his forthcoming Indycar test, the team has clarified that a full-time race seat is not in the cards.
Sargeant is scheduled to test the Indycar next Tuesday. However, co-owner Michael Shank explained that while he values the opportunity to observe Sargeant's performance, the team currently has no openings for the 2025 season.
"Logan's manager is also George Russell's manager," Shank said. "I got to know him through (family friend) Oswaldo (Negri) really well, too. He's always stayed in touch just to keep an eye out and keep watching."
Reflecting on the chance to assess Sargeant's skills, Shank mentioned, "I thought, 'Well, this guy is a super license holder and did really well enough, let's just see where this puts us.' We tested Nyck de Vries a few years ago for the same reason."
Despite the lack of an immediate opportunity, Shank acknowledges Sargeant as a potential standby option. "I don't have anything for him for 2025, but I always have it in the back of my head if we got into a trouble spot and we wanted to try someone, we have a person that we can go to immediately."
For Sargeant, the test remains a valuable opportunity. "It's just a rare opportunity to get to test someone who I think has some potential. You never know," Shank concluded.
