Steve Bruce questions whether academies are producing enough home-grown talent

Hull City boss Steve Bruce questions whether enough Premier League academies are producing home-grown talent.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has questioned whether there is enough home-grown talent being produced at Premier League academies.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has introduced plans to increase the number of home-grown players in squads from eight to 12.

"It is a great debate," Bruce said in today's press conference. "We have the Premier League which is a wonderful spectacle, but we have to find a way to produce young players and we have one or two, but we would like a lot more.

"One thing that is staggering over the last 20 years, is that we have invested millions in academies, but are we producing enough players? When you look back, where are they? It is a hell of a debate. For me personally, we miss children playing football at school."

The proposals, which were launched last month, also include giving only the best non-EU players permission to join a Premier League club.
