Everton defender Bryan Oviedo has suggested that he will miss the World Cup if he thinks a premature return from injury will cause problems next season.
The 24-year-old, who broke his leg in January, was believed to be on course to play at this summer's tournament with Costa Rica, but he claims that no risks will be taken over his fitness.
"I want be in the World Cup," Oviedo told members of the media. "It's one of the best experiences a footballer can have but I need to be honest for my career for the next year.
"I want to be ready. I don't want to be 80 per cent or 90 per cent because it's dangerous for me and the team.
"I am working for the World but if it's not possible then I am working to recover for next season because it will be very important for me."
Costa Rica will take on England, Italy and Uruguay in Group D.
