Everton manager Ronald Koeman insists that time will prove he spent well during the summer transfer window, as his new signings continue to take time to adapt.

Ronald Koeman has insisted that he still has the full backing of the club's board and is confident that his summer recruits will help transfer Everton's fortunes.

The Dutchman is the current favourite with most bookmakers to be the next Premier League manager sacked, following a run of two wins in 12 games overall.

Further misery was piled on Koeman when the Toffees lost 2-1 to Lyon on Thursday night, leaving their hopes of progression in the Europa League looking slimmer by the game, but he believes that the £100m worth of talent recruited in a busy summer will soon come good.

Asked about the support he has received behind the scenes, the ex-Southampton manager told reporters: "That's not changed. Of course we have daily and weekly contact, I know everybody is a little bit worried about the situation but that's normal.

"It's not time to stop and talk about reasons why [we've underperformed]. We need to take the situation how it is now and prepare the team for Sunday [against Arsenal].

"The position we are in the league is not the position Everton needs to stay and that's what we need to change. I still believe in the players and the signings we did in the summer because maybe everybody can have some doubts about several of the signings. The future will show that the signings we made were in fact good signings."

Davy Klaassen, Jordan Pickford, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Michael Keane all commanded large transfer fees, while Wayne Rooney returned to his boyhood club on a free contract.
