Hughton: 'Butland won't be fazed'

Teenage goalkeeper Jack Butland won't be fazed by the international stage at Euro 2012, according to his Birmingham manager Chris Hughton.

Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton is confident that young goalkeeper Jack Butland won't be overawed on the international stage.

The 19-year-old Blues stopper has been drafted into Roy Hodgson's Euro 2012 squad following John Ruddy's withdrawal with a broken finger.

Despite the fact that he has yet to represent either club or country at the highest level, Hughton is convinced the teenager is capable of making the step up.

"It'll be great for his experience and development, I don't think he would be fazed by it," Hughton told Sky Sports News.

"He's a mature lad - you can't get where he is at 19 as a goalkeeper without that maturity. Obviously you've got to have the ability but you need that maturity and that he does have.

"It's a massive step up but the experience he'll gain working with Ray Clemence and Dave Watson and around the quality of players will be invaluable."

Buckland spent a spell on loan at League Two Cheltenham Town this season.
