Steven Gerrard and Jack Wilshere both believe that Roy Hodgson is a good choice forEngland manager.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere have both welcomed Roy Hodgson's appointment as the new England manager.

Hodgson was appointed as the national team boss on Tuesday following two days of discussions with officials from the FA at Wembley Stadium.

The 64-year-old worked with Gerrard during his tenure as Liverpool chief and the midfielder is looking forward to working with his former manager again.

"I've worked with Roy. He's a good man and a good manager," said Gerrard in a statement.

"It's important he's given a chance and I'm looking forward to working with him again."

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere looks set to miss out on Euro 2012 having spent the entire season on the sidelines with injury, but the 20-year-old has joined Gerrard in supporting Hodgson.

Wilshere tweeted: "Not many have the experience that Roy Hodgson has, proved he is a top manager at International level so don't see no reason why he can't do it for England...good choice in my opinion! Good luck and I hope I can help him in some way in the future!"

The FA has allowed Hodgson to remain in control of West Bromwich Albion for the Baggies' final two Premier League games of the season.
