Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand joins Aston Villa on loan

Aston Villa have confirmed that Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand has joined the club on loan until the end of the season.

Blues manager Jose Mourinho revealed the news during his press conference this morning, and Villa have now followed suit by announcing the move on their official website.

The 24-year-old has struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge due to Cesar Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole standing in his way.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for me to come here," Bertrand told the club's official website. "Aston Villa is a fantastic club with a massive fanbase and a great history.

"To get this chance to come here and play some games will be a really good step for me. Whenever I've played for Chelsea here at Villa Park the fans have been fantastic and have always created a great atmosphere."

Bertrand was previously linked with a move to Liverpool.
