Burnley boss Sean Dyche pays tribute to Tom Heaton

Burnley boss Sean Dyche hails goalkeeper Tom Heaton following the 30-year-old's recent form between the sticks.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has hailed Tom Heaton following the goalkeeper's recent form between the sticks.

Heaton made a Premier League-high 11 saves against Manchester United last weekend as Burnley escaped with a goalless draw from Old Trafford despite coming under a host of pressure.

There have been calls for the experienced goalkeeper to be named as England's number one ahead of Joe Hart, and Dyche has said that the 30-year-old is currently "giving very good performances" for Burnley.

"Tom is giving very good performances for us, he is always looking to improve and develop which is the culture and environment that we set here. He's played a big part of that for himself and he has been effective within the group as well," Dyche told reporters.

"He's been a very good captain last year and continues to be so as well. He's continued to progress year on year and all credit to him. The other goalies rub off on him as well, pushing him and that's a good blend we have in that position.

"His all-round game is maturing I think and in my opinion he is certainly a Premier League goalkeeper – there are no two ways about it."

Heaton represented Man United between 2002 and 2010, but never made a first-team appearance for the Red Devils. Following spells with Cardiff City and Bristol City, the shot-stopper joined Burnley in 2013.
