Mark McGhee says that he is open to taking charge of the Brighton & Hove Albion team on a temporary basis following the dismissal of Gus Poyet.

Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee has revealed that he is willing to return to Brighton & Hove Albion on an interim basis.

The Championship outfit are thought to be looking for a caretaker boss to take charge of pre-season while they search for a replacement for Gus Poyet, who was sacked last night.

When asked by The Argus if he would take up the role, McGhee said: "Of course I would. I still have contact with people at the club.

"I am here and available and if they wanted me for a couple of weeks without prejudice, then absolutely, I would be willing to help them."

McGhee was in charge of the Seagulls from 2003 to 2006.
