Preview: Brentford vs. Blackburn Rovers

Sports Mole previews Saturday's match between Brentford and Blackburn Rovers as the two playoff hopefuls meet at Griffin Park.

Two teams in the playoff mix will go head to head in the Championship this Saturday as Brentford host Blackburn Rovers at Griffin Park.

The Bees saw their remarkable recent run of five consecutive victories ended last weekend as Huddersfield Town edged to a 2-1 win, but they remain fifth in the table and just four points off leaders Derby County.

Mark Warburton will be particularly keen for his side to make a swift return to winning ways on his year's anniversary in charge of the club as defeat could see them drop out of the playoff places altogether.

They will be glad to be back at Griffin Park having only lost one game on their way to a tally of 21 home points this season, a record only Ipswich Town and Cardiff City can better.

Indeed, they have picked up 16 of the last 18 points available in front of their own fans, including consecutive victories over Derby, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.

The hosts will still be without Scott Hogan and Alan McCormack for this match, and Warburton could opt to name an unchanged side for the fourth time in a row despite defeat last time out.

Blackburn also saw an unbeaten streak come to a disappointing end last Saturday, with their late 2-1 loss at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday ending a run of nine matches without defeat.

Draws have been the order of the day recently, however, which means that they come into this match having only won one of their last five outings.

As a result, they remain outside the playoff places as things stand, but victory by a big enough margin this weekend would guarantee their place in the top six at the end of the day.

They have not lost any of their last five away games, but once again draws have resulted in a number of dropped points, with just one win coming from their last six on the road.

They have also only won one of their last seven away to Brentford, losing five, although this is the first time the clubs will have met in a competitive fixture since 1996.

Rovers have a fully fit squad to choose from and are also boosted by the return of Tom Cairney from suspension, and he should be restored straight back into the starting lineup.

Blackburn:
