Preview: Barrow vs. Morecambe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League Two clash between Barrow and Morecambe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Morecambe will be aiming to make it six straight wins in all competitions when they continue their League Two campaign away to Barrow on Tuesday night.

The visitors, who are sixth in the table, will enter the contest off the back of a 4-1 win over AFC Wimbledon, while 11th-placed Barrow drew 0-0 with Salford City on Saturday afternoon.

Barrow will bring a five-game unbeaten run in League Two into this match, although four of those fixtures have been draws, including a 0-0 with Salford on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluebirds have also drawn with Notts County, MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon since their loss at Grimsby Town at the start of October, while they were 2-0 winners over Forest Green Rovers in their last away match.

Pete Wild's side have won five, drawn seven and lost three of their 15 league games this season to collect 22 points, which has left them in 11th position in the table, four points off the playoff positions.

Barrow were promoted from the National League in 2020, and they have finished 21st, 22nd and ninth in their last three campaigns in League Two.

The Bluebirds last faced Morecambe during the 2020-21 League Two campaign and suffered defeats in both matches, including a 2-1 loss in the corresponding game at Holker Street.

Morecambe, meanwhile, were relegated from League One last season, so they will be expecting to be among the challengers for promotion from League Two in 2023-24.

The Shrimps have won eight, drawn three and lost three of their 14 league matches this season to collect 27 points, which has left them in sixth position in the table.

Morecambe are three points behind second-placed Notts County with two games in hand, so they are in a strong position in the division, while their recent form has been excellent.

Derek Adams's side have won each of their last five games in all competitions, including their last four in the league, beating AFC Wimbledon 4-1 on Saturday, which followed successes over Colchester United, Sutton United and Tranmere Rovers.

Morecambe are unbeaten in the fourth tier of English football since the middle of September and will now be aiming to secure another victory ahead of their clash with Lincoln City in the FA Cup first round next weekend.

Team News

Barrow head coach Wild is again expected to line his side up in a 3-5-2 formation on Tuesday evening, with Dominic Telford set to continue alongside Emile Acquah in the final third.

Acquah has been in strong form this season, finding the back of the net on five occasions in League Two, although he has now gone three matches without a goal.

Kian Spence was the first player to be substituted against Salford on Saturday, but it was a tactical change, and the midfielder should retain his starting role for this match.

As for Morecambe, head coach Adams has no fresh concerns from the side that took to the field for the first whistle against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Michael Mellon scored a hat-trick in the impressive win, and the 19-year-old, who has nine league goals to his name this term, is set to continue in the final third of the field.

Max Melbourne is pushing for a spot in the side, but providing that there are no late setbacks, it would not be a surprise to see the same XI for Tuesday's fixture at Holker Street.

Barrow possible starting lineup:
Farman; Feely, Ray, Canavan; Newby, Gotts, Campbell, Spence, Worrall; Acquah, Telford

Morecambe possible starting lineup:
Smith; Senior, Rawson, Stokes, Tutonda; Songo'o, Davenport; Bloxham, McKiernan, Slew; Mellon

We say: Barrow 1-1 Morecambe

Morecambe's recent form has been excellent, but Barrow are unbeaten at home in the league this season, with four of their six games finishing level, and we can see the points being shared on Tuesday, which would not be the worst result in the world for either side.
