Report: Jeremy Mathieu tells Valencia he wants to leave

Jeremy Mathieu has reportedly informed Valencia that he wants to join Barcelona this summer.

The 30-year-old, who has emerged as one of the best centre-backs in La Liga over the last couple of seasons, has long been linked with a move to the Camp Nou.

Talks have progressed this summer and according to Marca, the Frenchman has now told Valencia that he wants to depart the Mestalla in order to seek pastures new.

However, it is understood that the two clubs are still some way apart in terms of price.

Mathieu's release clause, including tax, reportedly stands in the region of £30m.
