Barcelona reportedly consider a January move for Zenit St Petersburg defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Barcelona are reportedly considering a January move for Zenit St Petersburg defender Branislav Ivanovic.

The Spanish champions are believed to be in the market for a new centre-back due to the fact that Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen are both facing extended spells on the sidelines.

Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld and Ajax's Matthijs de Ligt have both been linked with a move, but according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona view Ivanovic as the more realistic option.

The 34-year-old made close to 400 appearances for Chelsea between 2008 and 2017 before moving to Zenit, but his contract with the Russian outfit will expire at the end of this season.

Ivanovic has already made 16 appearances for his Russian outfit this term and earned over 100 caps for Serbia before retiring from international duty earlier this year.
