Former Barcelona defender Edmilson warns Neymar that Lionel Messi will still be the number one star at Barcelona next season.

Former Barcelona defender Edmilson has said that Neymar will have to get used to Lionel Messi's status as the biggest star at the club.

The Brazilian forward joined Barca for a reported €57m (£49m) in May, but despite being regarded as one of the stars of the game in his homeland, Neymar will have to play second-fiddle to Messi, according to Edmilson.

"Neymar is a very smart guy, he knows that ahead of him is Messi, who has been playing at a very high level for five years," Football-Espana quotes Edmilson as saying.

"People in the Barcelona dressing room will be surprised with the way he behaves, at how he listens to those who are better than him, he will not create any issues. Neymar has great joy, he is a tremendous guy. He and Messi are two great players with different characteristics.

"There is much talk of whether they can work together, people want to make trouble of a situation that has not even started yet."

Neymar finished as the Selecao's top scorer as they won the Confederations Cup last month.
