McCall satisfied with a point despite letting two-goal lead slip

Ross County staged a fightback to draw with Ayr.

Ayr United boss Ian McCall bemoaned the wild weather after his side let slip a 3-1 interval lead to draw 3-3 draw with Ross County at Somerset Park on Saturday.

The visitors led through a Josh Mullin strike but Lawrence Shankland scored from the spot and then struck from close range before Andy Geggan increased the Scottish Championship leaders' advantage.

However, after the turnaround  Billy Mckay's penalty reduced the deficit and Don Cowie levelled.

McCall told Ayr United's YouTube channel: "The first half was a great game of football and we were disappointed only to be 3-1 up, we played really well.

"The toss was vital today and we lost it. In the second half, the wind got up and the rain came and we were kicking right into it. The second half was a nightmare.

"But all credit to Ross County, they changed and went long ball and I have no issues with that and got a couple of goals.

"After that we changed and defended better. They still had (chances) but we had the best chance of the second half with Liam (Smith) he has got to score from three yards out.

"Perversely, I am not disappointed with the point. I knew the toss was going to be vital because of the way the weather changed but we will take a point and move on.

"We are still top of the league with a game in hand."

Ross County remained in second place and co-manager Steven Ferguson said: "I thought it was an absolutely fantastic game to watch and a fantastic game to be part of.

"We were 3-1 down at half-time against an Ayr team that have been so ruthless for the whole of the season.

"To get back to 3-3 and threaten to win the game, I suppose it does become a really positive point for us."

Billy King's second-half goal gave Dundee United a point in a 1-1 draw at Inverness.

Tom Walsh opened the scoring for the home side from close range in the 18th minute but King's left-footed shot from 18 yards after 76 minutes gave the Taysiders a share of the spoils.

Alloa twice fought back from behind to earn a point from Partick Thistle in a 2-2 draw at Firhill.

Kris Doolan's penalty after 18 minutes gave the home side the lead only for Kevin Cawley to equalise six minutes later.

Blair Spittal restored Thistle's lead in the 37th minute but Dario Zanatta's second half drive brought second-bottom Alloa level.

Queen of the South and Dunfermline Athletic fought out a goalless draw  at Palmerston as did bottom side Falkirk and Morton at the Falkirk Stadium.
