Wolverhampton Wanderers fear lengthy David Edwards absence

Wolves expect midfielder David Edwards to be out of action for a lengthy spell after suffering a serious knee injury during Tuesday's defeat at Ipswich.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder David Edwards is expected to be sidelined for a lengthy spell after suffering a serious knee injury during Tuesday's defeat to Ipswich Town.

The 28-year-old lasted just 15 minutes at Portman Road before he was forced off with ligament damage.

The full extent of the problem is yet to be discovered, but manager Kenny Jackett believes that Edwards will be out of action for the near future.

"It is quite a bad injury – a knee ligament injury," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "The tackle has taken him right out – he has gone right through him and put him off the pitch but nothing was done.

"It leaves Dave with a knee ligament injury now and hopefully it's not too long but any knee ligament injury from a tackle is not a good one.

"We will see how it reacts but at the moment it is too soon as there is a fair bit of swelling. He certainly won't be available on Saturday though."

Wolves continue their Championship campaign on Saturday when they travel to Derby County.
