Heurelho Gomes pleased with man-of-the-match display

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes says that he is pleased with his man-of-the-match performance in the goalless draw with Chelsea at Vicarage Road.

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has said that he is pleased with his performance in the goalless draw with Chelsea this evening.

The Brazilian shot-stopper was barely tested in the first half but made a number of key saves after the break to keep Chelsea at bay with a man-of-the-match display.

Gomes acknowledged that a draw was perhaps the fairest result on the night, and was happy that he played a part in securing it for the Hornets.

"I believe the goalkeeper has to do things like [make key saves]. We got a point today against a very good side and I was glad to make a difference," he told BBC Sport.

"I believe we dominated the first half; they are a very good side and getting better all the time. It's difficult to say [we should win] because they're below us because they're such a great side.

"We have to be competitive, it doesn't matter which team we play, we have to be competitive and that's what we're trying."

The match at Vicarage Road saw Watford keep a clean sheet for the first time in their last seven Premier League outings.
