Tottenham Hotspur produce memorable fightback to go through

Tottenham Hotspur are through to the last-16 stage of the Europa League after a 3-1 win against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk this evening.

Tottenham Hotspur are through to the last 16 of the Europa League after they came from a goal down to beat Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 3-1 at White Hart Lane.

The result means that Spurs scraped through 3-2 on aggregate against the Ukraine side over the two legs.

In a first half devoid of any real goalmouth activity Christian Eriksen fired tamely at Denys Boyko in the Dnipro goal, as Spurs probed without any real intent in the final third.

Tim Sherwood's side trailed at the restart, and their task was made all that harder when Roman Zozulya scored two minutes in to give the visitors a 2-0 lead on aggregate.

Eriksen began the fightback on 56 minutes when the Danish international curled a free kick over the wall into the net.

Zozulya was sent off just after the hour mark when he headbutted Jan Vertonghen, and Emmanuel Adebayor struck almost immediately to level things up on aggregate.

However, with Dnipro's away goal, Spurs still required another, and it was Adebayor who netted once again when he smashed in a half-volley past Boyko after bringing down a long ball on the chest.

Yevhen Konoplyanka nearly broke Spurs' hearts late on when he cut inside and drilled a shot goalwards, but his effort was well saved by Hugo Lloris.

The winger was at it again deep into stoppage time and another strike forced the French keeper into action once more, as Spurs held on to go through.
