Preview: Manchester United Women vs. Leicester Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Manchester United Women and Leicester Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Manchester United Women will attempt to extend their unbeaten start to the season when they welcome Leicester Women to Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be looking to maintain their 100% record after winning their opening two Women's Super League matches.

Man United boss Marc Skinner will be content with his side's start to the season, having seen his team win one and draw two of their opening three matches across all competitions.

After coming from behind to beat Aston Villa in their league opener, the Red Devils were on course to make it two wins in two when they took a 2-1 lead against Arsenal thanks to strikes from Leah Galton and Melvine Malard, but Cloe Lacasse's stoppage-time equaliser denied Man United all three points.

The Red Devils were back in action in midweek for the first leg of their Champions League qualifying tie against French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

They played out a 1-1 draw in their first-ever Women's Champions League match after Malard came off the bench to cancel out Tabitha Chawinga's 53rd-minute opener.

While Man United will have one eye on Wednesday's second leg in Paris, their initial priority will be to extend their unbeaten run in the WSL to 10 matches.

After being involved in a relegation fight in both of the last two seasons, Leicester will now be setting their aspirations a little higher following their positive start to the campaign.

The Foxes kicked off the season with a 4-2 win over newly-promoted Bristol City, before they claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton last weekend thanks to Lena Petermann's second-half strike.

That result ensured that Leicester finished matchday two as just one of two teams - alongside Liverpool - that are yet to drop points this season.

Willie Kirk's side continued their fine start to the season in midweek after goals from Aimee Palmer and Hannah Cain guided Leicester to a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the League Cup.

Leicester will now turn their attention back to WSL matters, and they will be looking to pick up their first WSL point against Man United, after losing their previous four head-to-head meetings in the competition.

Team News

Man United are still unable to call upon the services of long-term injury absentees Aoife Mannion and Lucy Watson.

Geyse was not fit to start the Champions League clash with PSG, but the Brazilian is expected to return to the lineup against Leicester.

After coming off the bench to score in Man United's last two matches, Malard is in contention to feature in the starting XI for Sunday's contest.

As for the visitors, Australian forward Remy Siemsen remains sidelined with an ankle injury, which is expected to keep her out of action until November.

After scoring the winner in Wednesday's League Cup meeting with Liverpool, Cain could be rewarded with her first WSL start of the season.

Having registered two goals in the opening two league games, Petermann will look to continue her impressive start to her Leicester career when she leads the line on Sunday.

Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Blundell, Le Tissier, Turner, George; Zelem, Ladd; Geyse, Toone, Galton; Malard

Leicester Women possible starting lineup:
Leitzig; Cayman, Howard, Green, Nevin; Whelan, Tierney, Rantala; Cain, Goodwin, Petermann

We say: Manchester United Women 2-1 Leicester Women

Leicester will head into Sunday's contest in a positive mood, but we think that their winning run will be brought to an end by a Man United side who have won five of their last six home league games.
