Darren Wassall praises "excellent" Derby County

Interim Derby County boss Darren Wassall heaps praise on his side after they beat Brentford for their first league victory in nine games.

Interim Derby County manager Darren Wassall has hailed his side's performance during their 3-1 victory over Brentford at Griffin Park this afternoon.

The Rams launched a late comeback to halt an eight-match run without a Championship victory, picking up three points in the league for the first time since Boxing Day.

Despite needing three goals in the final ten minutes, Wassall believes that his side were well worth the win and has urged his players to build on this triumph.

"We were excellent and I thought we created enough to win two or three games. We started on the front foot, were aggressive and full of determination and desire, but their keeper was inspired," he told reporters.

"Undeservedly we went behind and it would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves but it's a testament to the character in that dressing room that they rolled their sleeves up and continued to dominate the game and control it, but also got the equaliser and another two goals.

"The players have been criticised for not getting results but without getting carried away we have something to build on now. One swallow does not make a summer and this result will mean nothing if we don't get a result on Wednesday. We were always in the promotion race. We had not won for eight league games but we have won today and we are still firmly in the promotion race."

Derby now sit fifth in the Championship table ahead of Wednesday's meeting with Blackburn Rovers.
