Preview: Celtic vs. Dundee United

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Scottish Cup quarter-final replay between Celtic and Dundee United.

Celtic and Dundee United go head to head for the third time in a row in the Scottish Cup quarter-final replay on Wednesday.

The teams met twice last week as they drew 1-1 in the Scottish Cup in a match that saw three players sent off. That was followed by The Bhoys lifting their first trophy of the season after beating United 2-0 in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday.

Ronny Deila has previously said that Celtic are aiming for the treble this season, and is unlikely to rest many players ahead of the teams' fourth meeting on the bounce in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Virgil van Dijk misses out for the hosts through suspension, with Darnell Fisher or Charlie Mulgrew the most likely replacements. Former United players Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong, who joined Celtic on transfer deadline day, are cup-tied.

United welcome back top scorer Nadir Ciftci, who missed Sunday's showpiece match through suspension, and he is poised to return to the starting XI ahead of Mario Bilate.

The Tannadice club are hit with three suspensions after Paul Paton and Paul Dixon were shown their marching orders in the Scottish Cup and captain Sean Dillon saw red in the final. They could be replaced by Charlie Telfer, John Souttar and Chris Erskine.

The winners will play Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the semi-final next month.
