Mesut Ozil confirms he has signed new three-and-half-year contract at Arsenal

Mesut Ozil announces that he has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract at Arsenal.

Mesut Ozil has announced on social media that he has put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half-year contract at Arsenal.

The futures of the German World Cup winner and Alexis Sanchez had dominated the transfer gossip pages since last summer due to both players' deals expiring at the end of this season.

Sanchez opted not to renew his contract and instead joined Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in a swap deal that sent Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Emirates.

Ozil was also a rumoured target of United, but the 29-year-old has decided to commit his future to the North London outfit, who secured the signature of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.

Within the midfielder's announcement on Twitter, he admitted that it was one of the "most important decisions" of his career and that in the end he 'let his heart decide'.

Ozil has made 132 appearances since moving to the Emirates from Real Madrid in 2013, scoring 36 goals and creating 61 assists.

In terms of silverware, the German has scooped three FA Cup trophies with Arsenal.
