Preview: Aarhus vs. Brondby - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Danish Superliga clash between Aarhus and Brondby, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aarhus will be looking to secure their place in the top three when they host Brondby on the final day of the Danish Superliga season on Sunday at Ceres Park & Arena.

The hosts need a victory on home soil to ensure they will be playing Europa Conference League football next term, while Brondby will be hoping to hold onto fifth place in the Championship group.

Match preview

Aarhus ended their two-game winless run on Tuesday night with a 3-1 away success at Randers, with Mikkel Duelund, Mikael Anderson and Yann Aurel Bisseck getting on the scoresheet at Cepheus Park.

Despite being inconsistent in their ability to pick up points recently, Aarhus have continued to net plenty of goals in their matches, scoring 10 in their last four, including three at the home of champions Copenhagen nearly a fortnight ago.

Uwe Rosler's men sit third in the Superliga standings heading into Sunday's all-important final matchday, with the knowledge that European football will be theirs if they can better Viborg's result.

Patrick Mortensen is having an outstanding campaign for the Whites having scored 15 league goals so far, meaning he only trails Gustav Isaksen in the division's Golden Boot race.

Brondby have nothing tangible to play for as they travel to Aarhus this weekend, but they will be buoyed after recording the biggest win of their campaign last time out on home soil.

A Mathias Kvistgaarden hat-trick helped Jesper Sorensen's men towards a convincing 5-1 victory over second-placed Nordsjaelland at Brondby Stadion - a thumping which halted their short winless run.

The Boys from Vestegnen have been productive on their travels of late and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run on the road to four matches this weekend, with the most notable result from that trio of ventures being the 1-0 win at Copenhagen in late April.

Sitting fifth in the league standings and seven points behind fourth-placed Viborg, Brondby know their fight for a place in Europe next season is over - a point on Sunday would ensure they do not finish the campaign behind Randers.

Team News

Aarhus will be without the services of long-term absentee Benjamin Hvidt on Sunday afternoon, with the 23-year-old still recovering from an injury which has seen him play no part since late October.

The hosts have a pair of suspensions for the final game of the campaign, with Nicolai Poulsen and Sigurd Haugen both serving one-match bans for the yellow cards they collected last time out against Randers.

Brondby are expected to name a similar side to the one which battered Nordsjaelland but could be enforced into a change in their back three - 26-year-old Kevin Tshiembe was forced off early in the second half last time out and was replaced by Frederik Winther.

Youngster Oscar Schwartau scored off the bench at Brondby Stadion, and boss Sorensen could opt to hand the 17-year-old a rare start considering they are out of the top-four race going into the final match.

Aarhus possible starting lineup:
Hansen; Molgaard, Bisseck, Tingager; Beijmo, Yakob, Brandhof, Links; Duelund, Anderson, Mortensen

Brondby possible starting lineup:
Hermansen; Ibsen, Lauritsen, Winther; Mensah, Evjen, Radosevic, Vallys, Riveros; Omoijuanfo, Kvistgaarden

SM words green background

We say: Aarhus 3-2 Brondby

Aarhus come into this crucial clash knowing that a win will probably secure a place in the Conference League next season, and the attacking players for the hosts should be confident of firing their team into Europe.

Brondby will be buoyed after trashing Nordsjaelland last time out, but we believe their lack of anything tangible to fight for could lead to them being slightly off the boil on Sunday afternoon.
