Kevin Anderson has booked his spot in the third round of the Madrid Open with a 7-6 3-6 6-4 victory over Juan Monaco on Wednesday.
It was Monaco that secured the first break of the match at 1-1, but Anderson responded to level at 3-3, with the set remaining on serve until a tie-break, where Anderson triumphed 7-5 to take a one-set lead.
Monaco responded in positive fashion in the second, however, with the Argentine breaking at 2-3 to take charge of the set, ultimately levelling courtesy of a 6-3 score.
Five breaks of serve occurred in the third and final set, but it was Anderson that managed to break twice in the latter stages to book his spot in the next round.
