Rafael van der Vaart heaps praise on the Spurs defence after their 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Rafael van der Vaart was keen to play down his contribution after his brace helped his side to a 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

The Dutchman netted either side of Mauro Formica's equaliser to keep Harry Redknapp's side in fifth place in the Premier League table.

His first strike was set up by full-back Kyle Walker, and Van der Vaart insisted that the defence should take the plaudits for the victory.

"Kyle did a fantastic job," he told the club's official website. "It was an amazing run, all the credit is to him.

"When you score you're always in the headlines, but I think the defenders were amazing today. This season they've been unbelievable for us.

"It's my second time here [at Ewood Park]. They play with throw-ins, corner kicks and long balls, it's really difficult to win here. It's a massive compliment to the boys that we did."

Spurs next take on Queens Park Rangers at home in the Premier League on Sunday.
