Former Scotland coach Kenny Black expresses his shock at the timing of former national team boss Craig Levin's sacking.

Former Scotland coach Kenny Black has expressed his surprise at the timing of former manager Craig Levein's sacking from the job.

Levein was "relieved of his duties" on Monday having failed to win a single one of Scotland's 2014 World Cup qualifiers, picking up just two points from four games.

The dismissal came the day before Levein was due to name his squad to face Luxembourg, and Black admitted that the timing shocked everyone.

"We were as frustrated as anyone and Craig was really, really passionate about being manager of his country," said Black.

"He was frustrated and disappointed with results but felt we could have got a bit more time and hopefully have got to March and the games against Wales and Serbia.

"When he's concentrating on assembling his squad for the Luxembourg fixture, the timing of the departure was a surprise to everyone."

Craig Levein is currently seeking legal advice over his dismissal.
