Reading manager Nigel Adkins insists that the team needs time to embrace his new style of football.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins has insisted that the team needs time to embrace his new footballing philosophy at the club.

The 48-year-old took charge of the Premier League strugglers last month following the sacking of Brian McDermott.

However, two defeats from Adkins's first two matches in charge have seen the side drop to the bottom of the table with six games to play.

"I want the players to work hard, I want the players to get the supporters off their feet," he told BBC Sport. "I want us to score goals, I want us to pass the football.

"That's a work in progress, it doesn't happen overnight. It takes time to build on things."

Reading resume their battle for Premier League survival on Saturday when they welcome Liverpool to the Madejski Stadium.
