Reading chairman John Madejski admits that he would not have sacked manager Brian McDermott.

Reading chairman John Madejski has revealed that he would not have taken the decision to give manager Brian McDermott the chop.

The 52-year-old was dismissed by the former Championship outfit last month due to the club's dangerous position in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Following the managerial shift, club owner Anton Zingarevich decided to appoint former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins as McDermott's successor to help keep the club afloat in the last few games of the season.

Despite the club's decision, Madejski has admitted that he wouldn't have sacked McDermott, but respects the decision that was made, according to BBC Sport.

The Royals are currently at the bottom of the league table, eight points away from safety.
