Jamie McCormack header gives Stenhousemuir vital first-leg lead

Stenhousemuir will take a slender 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Scottish League one playoff final clash against Queen's Park, courtesy of Jamie McCormack's goal.

Stenhousemuir have taken a giant leap towards retaining their Scottish League One status, having earned a 1-0 win away at Queen's Park in the first leg of their playoff final clash.

The home side came close to making an early breakthrough when Shaun Fraser curled a low free kick around the opposition wall, but Greg Fleming was equal to the effort to keep the scoreline level.

Opposite number Willie Muir also had to be on hand to make a number of stops in the opening 45 minutes, including a long-range drive from Colin McMenamin shortly before the interval.

Just moments after Bryan Wharton squandered a glorious chance to put Queen's Park ahead up one end, Jamie McCormack headed the Warriors ahead by capitalising on Paul McMullan's set-piece delivery up the other.

The Spiders pressed for a leveller in the remaining time, coming close to finding one when Fleming kept out Sean Burns's attempt, although Stenhousemuir could so easily have doubled their advantage heading into the return leg after McMillan's shot crashed back off the post late on.
