Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has insisted that manager Darren Ferguson is not "unsackable".
The club sit 11th in the League One table, but have won just one of their last 10 games in the league.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "He's not unsackable. Sacking him is not about money, I don't know why people accuse me of that.
"It's actually a really easy decision to fire a manager, but I've got to do what's right for the football club. What gives Darren more time is my belief in him and my backing, and at the moment he has that.
"I'm gutted when I hear some of the fans talk about him like they have at some of the games. If I thought for one moment he had lost the dressing room, he'd be gone. Those lads still believe in him and his management team."
Ferguson has been in charge at London Road for four years.
