Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Peterborough United will attempt to claim a third consecutive victory when they face Charlton Athletic in League One on Tuesday.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be looking to return to winning ways after losing their last two matches.

Match preview

Since Darren Ferguson returned to the Peterborough dugout in January, the Posh have won five of their seven games under his tutelage.

There was a wobble earlier this month when Ferguson's side were thrashed 5-0 by Bolton Wanderers, before they were narrowly beaten by Fleetwood Town.

However, the Posh have hit back in style in their last two games after following a commanding 3-0 victory with a 5-2 demolition of promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle at the weekend.

A Jonson Clarke-Harris brace as well as goals from Harry Kyprianou, Harrison Burrows and Jack Taylor guided Peterborough to a comfortable win over the Pilgrims, which leaves Peterborough seven points behind the playoffs with a game in hand over sixth-placed Derby County.

Peterborough will be hoping to continue their impressive head-to-head record against Charlton after avoiding defeat in their last nine meetings, which have produced six victories.

Charlton began the month of February with two wins from three games, but they have gone on to lose their last two matches.

A 2-0 away defeat against Derby County was followed by a narrow 1-0 loss to League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

Charlton still have a considerable nine-point cushion to the drop zone, but with the Addicks currently sitting in 14th position, they are in danger of finishing in the bottom half of the League One table for the second straight season.

Having failed to find the net in the last two matches, Charlton are at risk of going three games without a goal for the first time in League One this term.

Prior to their defeat to Derby, the Addicks recorded three consecutive away victories in the league, and they will be hoping to rediscover that form on Tuesday.

Team News

Ricky-Jade Jones has missed out in recent games for Peterborough with an ankle injury, and he remains a doubt for Tuesday's contest.

Oliver Norburn came off the bench on Saturday to make his long-awaited return from injury following an 11-month spell on the sidelines, and he is expected to be among the substitutes against Charlton as Posh manage his comeback.

After winning their last two matches, Ferguson could be tempted to name an unchanged lineup for the third consecutive game.

As for the visitors, they will be without the services of Mandela Egbo and Todd Kane due to quadriceps and hamstring injuries respectively.

After switching to a back three on Saturday, Charlton boss Dean Holden may decide to revert to a four-man defence, which could result in Steven Sessegnon being recalled to the side.

Miles Leaburn returned from a three-match spell on the sidelines to lead the line on Saturday, and he is expected to retain his place for Tuesday's contest.

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Norris; Ward, Knight, Edwards, Ogbeta; Kyprianou, Taylor; Poku, Burrows, Mason-Clark; Clarke-Harris

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Maynard-Brewer; Clare, Hector, Ness, Sessegnon; Kilkenny, Dobson, Fraser; Rak-Sakyi, Blackett-Taylor, Leaburn

We say: Peterborough United 2-1 Charlton Athletic

On the whole, Peterborough have fared well since Ferguson has returned, and after winning six of their last nine games against Charlton, we think that they will continue their impressive head-to-head record by claiming another victory on Tuesday.
