Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has hailed Papiss Cisse after the striker scored two spectacular goals to earn his side a 2-0 win at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Senegal international lashed in a ferocious left-footed drive in the first half before an outrageous long-range effort in injury time secured the points for the Magpies.

"The first goal is special, but for the second, we are seeing clock down and I thought the game was there to win 1-0, but he has just taken a chance, hit it true and you have to say he meant it," Pardew told BBC Sport. "It is one of the great goals.

"I had a laugh with Didier Droga and said that you just have to take your hat off to him. You could not have predicted he would start so well but he was the top-scorer in the Bundesliga in a poor team and that is one of the best leagues in the world.

"His work rate is terrific and he has brought in to everything we are trying to do here."

Cisse has now found the net 13 times in 12 games following his £10m January move from German club Freiburg.
