Arsene Wenger: 'This might be London's season'

Arsene Wenger claims it that could be "London's season" in Europe.

Arsene Wenger has said that it could be "London's season" in Europe after both Manchester clubs were eliminated from the Champions League in midweek.

Despite the Citizens' win, Napoli knocked them out with a win over Villarreal, while Manchester United were beaten in Basel. With Arsenal through, Chelsea were the one other English side to secure a spot in the next round with a 3-0 win over Valencia.

While the Arsenal boss acknowledges the Red Devils' recent number of appearances in the competition's final, he insists that both London clubs have come close to winning it, too.

"Let's not forget that Manchester United have played in three finals out of the last four," he told the club's official website. "We have to consider [their exit] as an accident.

"We were close [to winning the trophy], Chelsea were close too – the two teams were very, very close.

"You face competition from all over Europe with some massive clubs. But maybe this is London's season, you never know."

Meanwhile, Arsenal will look to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to eight games when Everton travel to the Emirates this weekend.
