The Football Association are to launch an investigation after a Chelsea steward was injured at Stamford Bridge during yesterday's 3-2 defeat by Manchester United.

He required hospital treatment on a knee injury after being caught up in an ugly crush, which was sparked by Javier Hernandez's controversial winner on 75 minutes.

Supporters in the Matthew Harding Stand threw coins, cigarette lighters and plastic cups towards the visiting players. A seat was also among the missiles.

An FA spokesman said: "We will wait for the referees' report and look into it."

Earlier on Sunday, Luis Suarez picked up a coin that had been thrown onto the pitch during Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
