The 21-year-old Irishman has committed to the club until the end of the 2017-18 season after breaking into the first team this term.
He has made 11 appearances in all competitions, starting five league games in the Championship.
The highlight of his debut campaign in the first team was when he scored the winner against Norwich City, which remains his only senior goal.
