Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay Barcelona's £38m asking price for defender Ronald Araujo, who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.

Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay Barcelona's €45m (£38.4m) asking price for defender Ronald Araujo next summer.

Araujo's contract at Camp Nou expires in 2023, and the 22-year-old has so far made little progress in negotiations over an extension with the Spanish giants.

Chelsea and Liverpool have both been linked with the centre-back, and El Nacional reports that it is Jurgen Klopp's side who appeal the most to the player.

The report claims that the Reds regard Barcelona's asking price as fair, and that they would also be able to outbid the Catalans when it comes to the contract offer.

Klopp is open to options to bolster his backline, with the futures of Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips currently uncertain due to a lack of first-team football this season.

Araujo enjoyed a breakthrough season with Barcelona last term, making 33 appearances across all competitions, while he has already featured 18 times this term.
