Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp rules out the prospect of letting Joe Gomez leave the club in January, despite reports linking the centre-back with a move to Aston Villa.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has ruled out the prospect of Joe Gomez leaving the club during the January transfer window.

Gomez has struggled for game time so far this season, falling behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate in the centre-back pecking order at Anfield.

The 24-year-old has been on the pitch for just 12 minutes across two substitute appearances in the Premier League in 2021-22, leading to speculation that he could be allowed to leave in January in search of more regular football, having missed most of last season through injury.

Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is understood to be interested in bringing Gomez to Aston Villa, but Klopp insists that he has no plans to let the England international leave.

"It was obviously not the best year for him, but that's how it goes," he told reporters.

"We are patient, and Joe is patient. I have no plans to give anybody on loan in the winter."

Gomez was a key part of the Liverpool side that won the Premier League title in 2019-20 and has made 129 appearances for the first team in total.
