Hoddle backs Chelsea stadium move

Glenn Hoddle backs Roman Abramovich's "ambitious" decision to move Chelsea to a new stadium.

Former Chelsea player Glenn Hoddle believes that it is in the Blues' best interests to move from Stamford Bridge to a new stadium.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has bought back parts of Stamford Bridge, which indicates that the Russian billionaire is looking for a new home for the former Premier League champions.

Despite reports that a number of Blues supporters don't want to relocate, former England boss Hoddle believes that Chelsea have to move in order to keep up with their competitors.

"If Chelsea were to move 100 yards then some fans will not be happy, they don't want to move and that's it," Hoddle told talkSPORT.

"Chelsea have to move with the times though. It's quite ambitious. I know Abramovich has put loads of money into Chelsea but he's still looking to make the club bigger and better.

"If Chelsea do move to a 60-70,000 capacity stadium it will bode well for the future of the club."

Abramovich has reportedly been looking around sites including Earls Court and Battersea.
