Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf believes that Fernando Torres is “not good enough” to play for the former Premier League champions.
The 27-year-old striker has come under criticism for failing to make an impact at Stamford Bridge after recording one goal for the Blues since he joined from Liverpool in January.
Leboeuf believes that the £50m price tag for the Spanish international should have been too much for Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to pay.
“I think the problem is that we make somebody into a star who doesn’t deserve to be called a star,” Leboeuf told the Daily Star. “You have to show for three or four years at the top level that you are a star.
“Maybe Chelsea paid too much for him and he’s not good enough for them. So far that’s what it is.
“He has to find his space. Maybe he struggles with that. There are other players there and they are all stars.”
It is unclear whether the former Liverpool frontman will make the starting lineup for the Blues clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
