Steven Gerrard: I was "suicidal" after 2005 Carling Cup final defeat

Steven Gerrard admits that he was "suicidal" after Liverpool's 2005 Carling Cup final.

Steven Gerrard has said that he felt "suicidal" following Liverpool's Carling Cup final defeat to Chelsea in 2005.

Gerrard, who was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge at the time, scored a late own-goal to allow the Blues back into the game, which Jose Mourinho's men went on to win 3-2 in extra time.

"I was linked with Chelsea for a while before that final," he said, speaking ahead of tomorrow's showdown with Cardiff.

"To score an own-goal and lose was a nightmare for me. There were Liverpool fans who thought I meant the own-goal at the time. I felt suicidal. It was one of the worst games I have had.

"I think if we deliver the Carling Cup it will give us confidence."

The Liverpool skipper has made 11 total appearances for the club this season and scored two goals.
