Pep Guardiola departs Bayern Munich on a high by beating Borussia Dortmund to DFB-Pokal

Pep Guardiola leaves Bayern Munich on a high after his side emerged triumphant in the DFB-Pokal final, beating Borussia Dortmund 4-3 on penalties.

Pep Guardiola's three-year stint with Bayern Munich has ended on a high after his side beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 on penalties in the DFB-Pokal final following a goalless 120 minutes at Berlin's Olympiastadion.

The first chance of the game fell to the Bavarians, with Thomas Muller hammering the ball over the bar from distance after just five minutes played.

Just after the half-hour mark Bayern came close again, but Douglas Costa's goal-bound effort from the edge of the box was thwarted down low by Roman Burki.

Guardiola's charges kept plugging away after the restart, but the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Franck Ribery couldn't mark the Dortmund goalkeeper's clean sheet.

Eventually the match went to extra time, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a great chance to score for Thomas Tuchel's side, but he blasted the ball wide of the left post.

Neither side could score by the 120-minute mark, so the cup final would be forced to go to penalties for the first time in 17 years.

A topsy-turvy shootout saw Sven Bender and Sokratis Papastathopoulos fluff their opportunities for Dortmund, but despite Joshua Kimmich's miss, Bayern kept their cool, with Costa converting the final penalty to clinch the trophy.
