Afternoon all. So, after busy pre-season schedules, the waiting for the new Premier League season is almost over. Here, Manchester City and Arsenal will be battling it out at Wembley for the first piece of silverware of the season.

So, who will feature in the starting lineups? Well, let's start by taking a look at City's XI...

MAN CITY XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

MAN CITY SUBS: Hart, Richards, Rekik, Milner, Sinclair, Silva, Zuculini

So, the big news as far as City are concerned is that Willy Caballero has been chosen by Manuel Pellegrini to keep goal and not Joe Hart. It will be interesting to see who is given the gloves for next week's opening game. Elsewhere, there is a debut for midfielder Fernando, while Stevan Jovetic partners Edin Dzeko in attack. There's no Vincent Kompany, so youngster Dedryck Boyata comes into the defence.

And now for the Arsenal team...

ARSENAL XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Sanchez, Cazorla; Sanogo

ARSENAL SUBS: Martinez, Monreal, Flamini, Campbell, Rosicky, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Giroud

Three new faces for Arsenal in the form of Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and Alexis Sanchez. It appears that Chambers, who played a lot at right-back for Southampton last season, will start this fixture in the heart of the defence. Elsewhere, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey will operate in the midfield, while Yaya Sanogo will start as a lone centre-forward.

Staying with new signing Chambers - here is what former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, talking to BBC Sport, had to say about the youngster: "We shouldn't be quite so surprised, he has played in pre-season and once in a while you get a player who comes in and fits in immediately. Everything he does, he does with a bit of class, there is no fear in his game

"It's a great opportunity for him. The one question mark would have been how many games will he play but this is a great chance for him to play."

Now to City and their manager Manuel Pellegrini, who has just been talking to BT Sport: "It was a very successful season. We've had a good break and now we start again to try to be the best team. We have a very strong squad, not just a strong team. Maybe we will be stronger defending, but I hope we will continue to be an offensive team."

There was also a slip of the tongue during that interview from Pellegrini. When listing the club's new additions, he included Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala in there. The Frenchman has not officially signed on at the Etihad Stadium, but it would seem that a deal is very close!

Staying with City and even though he's not involved today because of injury, Alvaro Negredo is at Wembley:

Right, we've heard from Pellegrini, now it's time for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. Here is what he has had to say to BT Sport:

"We had a decent season last year, but the confidence has to be shown on the pitch and that is what we want to show. We want our fans to believe we can [have a good season]. The new signings have settled in well and they have a chance to show what they can do today."

The players are now in the tunnel and will soon be making their way out on to the pitch. Not long now until we are off and running at Wembley.

KICKOFF! Here we go then. Premier League champions City, attacking from right to left in the first half, get the Community Shield off and running.

Very little to report from the opening exchanges. The most notable moment came when former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri went to take a corner for City in front of the Gunners supporters. Unsurprisingly, the Frenchman was roundly jeered.

CHANCE! First meaningful attack of the contest comes from Arsenal as Sanchez slips a low pass down the blindside of Kolarov for Debuchy, who whips a cross into the box from the byline. Sanogo looks the favourite to head the ball in from close range, but he fails to get the better of Clichy, who does enough to clear the danger.

Some pressure from City and it may well have resulted in a goal but for some brave defending by Debuchy. Nasri tried his luck with a powerful strike from 10 yards out, but the ball cannoned off the Arsenal right-back's chest and was eventually cleared to safety.

More good defensive work, this time from City and Clichy. Arsenal left-back Gibbs raided forward and exchanged passes with Wilshere on the edge of the area. He then goes for goal from a narrow angle, but Clichy reads the danger well and blocks.

A very, very good finish from Cazorla, who has put Arsenal in front in the Community Shield. Boyata appears to foul Wilshere 20 yards from goal, but the loose ball runs for Cazorla and play continues. The Spaniard shows good awareness to switch the ball on to his left foot, which opens up the shooting chance. His low effort is by no means a powerful one, but there is enough accuracy to take it across Caballero and inside the far post.

CHANCE! And that really should be 2-0 to Arsenal. Cazorla turns creator on this occasion as he plays in Sanogo, who only has Caballero to beat. He drags his shot wide, though, and the opportunity is gone. Even so, Arsenal are bossing this game at present.

CHANCE! A swift counter-attack from Arsenal as Cazorla releases Sanchez, who powers into the City half. His intended pass for Wilshere is cut out, but Cazorla is on hand to collect the loose ball. His shot was on target, but it was deflected wide at the final moment. Then, from the resultant corner, Sanogo heads straight at Caballero.

City really haven't got going so far. There's very little urgency when they have possession of the ball and then when they lose it, the pairing of Toure and Fernando is being over-run by Arsenal's three-man unit. It wouldn't be at all surprising if Pellegrini made some changes during the break.

Much to the delight of the Arsenal fans, Nasri has failed to score from close range. Kolarov makes a great run down the left flank and having assessed his options, he crosses low for Nasri. It looks as though the midfielder is going to have a tap-in, but Chambers sticks out a boot to flick the ball behind Nasri, who struggles to make a clean connection. Good defending from the Arsenal youngster.

Chambers has look really assured up until now, but he's just been shown a clean pair of heels by Dzeko. The Bosnian drives on into the penalty, but his attempted cut back for Jovetic inside the area is cleared to safety by Koscielny.

The development that Ramsey has made over the last 18 months has to be applauded. He scored the winner in the FA Cup final and now he has another Wembley goal to his name. Sanogo deserves plenty of credit because he shows great strength to wrestle possession away from Boyata just inside the City area. He then picks out an advancing Ramsey, who takes one touch before firing his shot into the bottom corner of the net. Game over? We shall see.

It could have been 3-0 to Arsenal as Sanogo slips through a pass for Sanchez and the Chilean is through on goal. He can't quite get to the ball before Caballero, though, and the City keeper does well to clear the danger.

This may essentially be a glorified friendly, but Pellegrini is probably going to be laying into his players over the next 15 minutes. There were no positives to be taken from that half for those of a City persuasion.

It's the midfield where changes are desperately needed. The midfield two are being overworked and as we know, Toure is not overly keen on defending at the best of times. Looking at the bench, James Milner looks the most sensible of switches. He may not be the most exciting of players, but he's solid, which is something that City are badly lacking right now.

In contrast, Arsenal were slick from the first whistle and could have been even further in front. But for one moment of slack defending, Chambers has been very assured at the back, while fellow new signings Debuchy and Sanchez have had positive spells. Their best player, though, has been goalscorer Cazorla, who has been his creative self.

In terms of substitutions, it may not be long until Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain get a taste of the action for Arsenal. Both have been going through some extensive warm-up routines during the break.

RESTART! The players are back and Arsenal get the second half underway. There have been changes for both sides, with Giroud, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nacho Monreal coming on for Arsenal at the expense of Koscielny, Sanchez and Sanogo. Meanwhile, no alteration in the system for City, but Nasri has been replaced by David Silva.

BOOKING! The first yellow card of the afternoon and it's also the first of Fernando's career in England. He tries to plead his innocence, but he clearly pulled back Wilshere as the Arsenal midfielder looked to start a counter-attack.

POST! With Silva pulling the strings, City look a different side in this second half. The quiet Navas stands up a cross towards the back post, where Jovetic leaps highest to head the ball goalwards. Unfortunately for him, the ball cannons to safety off the post and then moments later he tests Szczesny with a powerful strike. City have certainly shaken off the slushy-caused brain freeze that hindered their first half display.

MAN CITY SUBS: A couple of changes for City, one of which is Milner, who has come on for Toure. Also entering the action is young Argentine defender Bruno Zuculini. He has replaced Dzeko, which is likely to see City revert to a 4-5-1 formation.

Well, it's fairly safe to say that Giroud will not score many better goals this season. Having inherited possession 25 yards from goal, he tries his luck. It's a powerful effort that he unleashes with his left boot, which flies over Caballero and dips just in time. Perhaps the City keeper could have been better positioned, but that should take nothing away from the quality of the strike. Now it's game over!

Oh dear Jovetic! He goes for an acrobatic bicycle kick 12 yards from goal, but the ball hits his shin and flies halfway up the stand behind the goal. That just about sums today up from a City point of view.

ARSENAL SUB: Fourth change of the encounter for the Gunners and it's Wilshere that is given a breather ahead of next weekend's season opener. The England international has been replaced by holding midfielder Mathieu Flamini.

ARSENAL SUB: And it's another substitution for Arsenal, with the impressive Cazorla taking his leave. On in the Spaniard's place comes Tomas Rosicky.

MAN CITY SUB: Another switch for City and it's the forgotten man Micah Richards that enters the action. He's come on for Kolarov.

The outcome here was decided a long while ago and that has transcended on to the pitch. The game is now being played at walking pace, with both sides seemingly content to wait for the final whistle.

SUBSTITUTIONS: Changes for both teams. First, Arsenal goalscorer Ramsey is replaced by Costa Rica international Joel Campbell, while City winger Scott Sinclair (remember him!?) has taken Navas's place.

There will be three minutes of stoppage time at the end of this encounter.

And there goes the final whistle. Arsenal win the first piece of the silverware and deservedly so - they were much the better of two teams and played some very good football times.

It's only a friendly of course, but City manager Pellegrini may be a little concerned with what he saw from his team. They were lethargic throughout the 90 minutes and didn't seem to have the drive to perform. Of course, as Phil Neville tweeted, they've got plenty of talent to come back into that lineup.
