Live Coverage: Commonwealth Games - July 29

Good morning everyone. Are you ready for another day of drama? We'll have all of the news, results and reaction for you on day six of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. There's plenty of action on the way, with the swimming being concluded today, and the athletics picking up pace in Hampden Park. We'll also have news from all the other sports, so make sure you don't go anywhere.

Blessing Okagbare was one of the stars of yesterday at the Games thanks to her superb display in the 100m final, and she has claimed that it was patience which allowed her to beat her rivals to the gold medal.

Libby Clegg delighted the Scottish crowd by winning gold in the T11/12 100m last night, and her guide Mikail Huggins was keen to praise the relationship between the two when looking back at the race this morning.

It's fair to say that Adam Gemili was an extremely popular man inside Hampden Park last night after clinching silver in the 100m. He'll be hoping it's just the first senior medal of a successful career.

Alex Marshall, whose success in the men's pairs event in the lawn bowls with Paul Foster broke Scotland's record for most gold medals at a single games, believes that performing in front of his fellow Scots made the win the best moment of his career.

Olympic champion Greg Rutherford begins his bid for long jump gold today, and he has insisted that he would be happy to take the title with a jump below his best at Hampden Park.

Damien Warner led the decathlon at the end of day one, and his advantage at the top of the overall standings has just been extended thanks to a new Games record in the 110m hurdles. England's John Lane remains in the silver medal position.

One of the heroes from London 2012 has been in action this morning, and it's good news for Greg Rutherford, who has booked his spot in the long jump final with his first effort of the day.

It's bad news for England's men in the hockey, with Simon Child's goal securing a 2-1 victory for New Zealand just a few moments ago. You can read a full report from Dan Lewis now.

Terrible news for defending champions Andy Turner, who struck the first hurdle firmly in his heat before being forced to abandon the race after losing his balance. It's clear just how much that has hurt Turner, but there was a positive outcome for other English athletes as Will Sharman and Lawrence Clarke book their spot in tonight's final.

Darren Campbell has claimed that Adam Gemili's silver medal in the 100m should leave other British sprinters "embarrassed" due to the short amount of time the former footballer has spent in full-time training for the event.

Chika Amalaha, who claimed the gold medal in the women's -53kg weightlifting category, has been provisionally suspended from the Commonwealth Games after testing positive for diuretics and masking agents. Her 'B' sample will be tested in London tomorrow.

England's netball side have kept their hopes of claiming medal alive by beating Trinidad and Tobago 70-24 for their third victory in four games.

Thanks Callum. Greg Rutherford made swift work of qualifying today and was equally quick to downplay his remarks about the Athletes' Village. The Olympic long jump champion criticised the noise levels within the village, but he has insisted that his comments have been blown out of proportion.

It was not such a good morning for Rutherford's teammate Andy Turner, who crashed out in the heats of the 110m hurdles. The defending champion has admitted that he is "devastated" with his early elimination and is strongly considering retiring after next month's European Championships.

Six-time Paralympic champion David Weir is making his Commonwealth Games debut and has safely qualified for the final of the men's Para-sport 1500m T54. English teenager Will Smith is also through to Thursday's medal race and all three of Team England's women followed suit in their event.

Scotland's poster girl for this Games, Eilidh Child, is through to the women's 400m hurdles final as the second fastest qualifier. Only Jamaica's Kaliese Spencer, who has the best time in the world this year, went quicker than her in the heats. England's Ese Okoro, Hayley McLean and Laura Wake are out.

Nottingham athlete Oldham was hoping to add to his London 2012 Olympic silver medal at these Games.

Controversy on the track as England's Andrew Osagie is disqualified from the men's 800m for allegedly blocking a late burst from Joe Thomas in this afternoon's heats. World record holder David Rudisha jogged his way into the final along with England's Michael Rimmer and Mukhtar Mohammed.

Osagie is clearly unhappy with the ruling from the judges and has told Sports Mole's correspondent in Glasgow than he plans to appeal his disqualification for "jostling or obstructing".

It's going to be gold for England in the men's team artistic gymnastics. They have a huge lead over second-place Scotland, who are on the verge of an historic medal themselves, with one rotation remaining - high bars for England. It's all but a certainty, but we won't add it to the medal table yet!

MEDAL! One medal which has already been confirmed is a bronze for England's Kristian Callaghan in the 25m rapid fire pistol, behind Australia's David Chapman and Harpreet Singh of India.

Here is confirmation of that soon-to-be gold for England in the men's team gymnastics. Kristian Thomas, Louis Smith, Max Whitlock, Nile Wilson and Sam Oldham were almost flawless at the SSE Hydro and the group even survived an injury to Oldham to romp to victory. Scotland will secure an historic silver when the results are confirmed upon the close of competition this evening.

England long jumpers Greg Rutherford and Chris Tomlinson have both been speaking about their respective injury concerns after qualifying for the men's final this morning. Rutherford has played down his fitness issues, but Tomlinson has admitted that he is struggling with a quad problem.

BREAKING NEWS Sports Mole can report that Andrew Osagie's disqualification from the men's 800m will stand. The England runner had hoped to be reinstated having initially been thrown out of the event for a "jostling or obstructing" offence against Joe Thomas of Wales in his heat.

A result from the boxing now and England's Joseph Joyce is guaranteed to fight for a medal in Glasgow after reaching the semi-finals of the men's super heavyweights with a three-round destruction of Scotland's Ross Henderson, who was floored four times before the contest was stopped.

Our correspondent in Glasgow, Matt Law, caught up with Joyce to get some reaction after his victory.

Rajiv Ouseph progressed through to the round of 32 of the men's badminton singles earlier today. After the match at the Emirates Arena he told reporters that he would take it "match by match" in his pursuit of a medal.

MEDAL UPDATE! New Zealand cyclist Anton Cooper has this afternoon clinched gold in the men's cycling cross-country. Samuel Gaze finished three-seconds behind to take silver to ensure a one-two finish for Kiwis - more of which can be found here.

MEDAL UPDATE! Well there's no shortage of medals right now in Glasgow, as Dan Rivers claims England's second gold of the day. He did it in quite some style, too.

Tin-Tin Ho put her exit from the table tennis team event behind her today by recording two 4-0 victories in the singles event. The youngster told reporters that she is "feeling motivated" to succeed.

MEDAL UPDATES! A couple of results to bring you now - and it's not the best of news for Team England. Craig Pilling of Wales defeated Omar Tefail in the men's freestyle 57kg to take bronze, while Yana Rattigan had to settle for silver in the women's 48kg.

There's plenty more medals to be awarded in the wrestling event this evening, and as ever we'll bring you full reports as and when they happen!

We brought you news earlier surrounding gymnast Sam Oldham's injury. Well we're still none the wiser as to the extent, and the London 2012 bronze medallist has in the last hour taken to Twitter to say:

MEDAL UPDATE! Mercy Brown is the latest Team England athlete to miss out on a medal at the Games. She finished in fourth place in the women's 75kg event this evening - falling short of a place on the podium by just six kilograms. Cruel.

MEDAL UPDATE! These medals are coming through thick and fast this evening, and Team England are involved yet again. This time Mike Grundy has added a bronze to his country's collection with a resounding 10-0 victory over Malta's David Galea.

Some reaction to bring you now from a disappointed Yana Rattigan. The 27-year-old lost out in the gold medal final this evening, but she is trying to find the positives from her 11-8 points defeat at the SECC. Read what she had to say by clicking here.

MEDALS UPDATE! A couple of results to bring you from the Tollcross Swimming Centre now. Jazz Carlin added to her gold medal from earlier this week with a silver in the women's 400m freestyle, while Ben Proud picked up his second gold of the Games in the men's 50m freestyle.

GOLD FOR WALES! This time yesterday Wales were celebrating their first gold in the pool for some 40 years; they now have two. Georgia Davies has come out on top in the women's 50m backstroke, while England's Lauren Quigley took silver. Read a full report here.

Thanks Dan. I begin with my stint in the chair with more good news for England. Laura Samuel has just won silver in the triple jump with a personal best effort when it mattered most.

Scotland's Daniel Wallace has just picked up his second medal of the Games with a silver in the 200 medley, with Daniel Tranter taking gold to add another medal to Australia's tally.

The 400m semi-finals have just taken place inside Hampden Park, and it's good news for Martyn Rooney as the Englishman joins Olympic champion Kirani James in securing a spot in the final with comfortable victories.

What a display from the Jamaicans! Stephanie McPherson has stormed away from teammates Novlene Williams-Mills and Christine Day to take gold in the 400m. Williams-Mills looked to have had that race wrapped up, but she didn't expect to see a strong finish from McPherson.

So close to another gold for England! Will Sharman looked on course for the victory in the 110m hurdles, but Jamaica's Andrew Riley came back strongly to clinch the win in a thrilling race.

It won't come as any surprise to hear that Ryan Cochrane has just claimed gold in the 1,500m freestyle, but most of the noise at the pool is being made for Daniel Jervis of Wales, who has managed to secure bronze with a superb performance.

Martyn Rooney, who looks a good bet for a medal in tomorrow's 400m final, has told Sports Mole's Barney Corkhill that he is enjoying the experience of competing in Glasgow far more than the difficult time he endured at the London Olympics.

It's all happening in Glasgow tonight! England's women finished second only behind Australia in the 4x100m medley final, but it was a complete change just moments late in the men's race as Team England held off the challenge of their rivals to clinch gold in the final race in the pool. What a finish!

The drama hasn't stopped thought. Ashley Bryant jumped a place in the final decathlon event, the 1500m, to claim silver for England as the dominant Damien Warner collects the top prize thanks to an excellent couple of days at Hampden Park.

English boxer Sam Maxwell spoke to Sports Mole's Matt Law just a short while ago, and the light welterweight was understandably delighted after booking his spot in the semi-finals with a win over defending champion Manoj Kumar.

Laura Weightman is a delighted woman right now, and you can't blame her. The English runner has just secured silver in the 1500m final, with only Kenya's Faith Kibiegon finishing ahead of her in a dramatic race.

There was still time for one more gold to be won on the track tonight. The hammer gold went to Canada's Jim Steacy, but there was also success for Nick Miller of England and Scotland's Mark Dry, who finished second and third, respectively, in the final.

We've got more from Matt Law, who has spoken Northern Ireland's Sean Duffy after his win earlier tonight secured a spot in the semi-finals. The light welterweight believes that he has made a statement with his performances so far in Glasgow.

Adam Gemili has been speaking more about his silver medal in the 100m last night. The 20-year-old believes that his achievement could start a new period of success for British sprinters over the next few years.

Angel Romaeo played her part as Wales claimed bronze in the artistic final earlier today, and the teenage gymnast has been speaking to Sports Mole's Pascal Lemesre about the achievement.

It's no surprise to hear how delighted Laura Weightman is tonight after she picked up a silver medal in the 1500m. You can read exactly what she had to say about her performance to Sports Mole's Barney Corkhill.

The last word tonight comes from the pool, where England's women secured a silver medal in the 4x100m on the final night of the Games for the swimmers. Fran Halsall has paid tribute to her teammates for their performances on another brilliant evening for England.
